QUOTATION OF THE MONTH
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
—Wayne Gretzky, National Hockey League
If you've got a great quote you want to share, send it to us at kohand@plannedtvarts.com. Thanks!
Satellite TV TOURS
Our Satellite Television Tour (STV) is the television equivalent of the Morning Drive Radio Tour. Beaming your author/spokesperson to 15-18 top local television stations combines great outreach with great convenience. Although your author/spokesperson does have to leave their house and go to our studios, they still don't have to travel to each city!
Satellite TV Tours offer superior exposure for important issues and ensure that your message will be aligned with the most urgent news of the day. During one morning from 6:30-9:30am eastern, we will arrange 15-18 back-to-back news interviews with local TV stations across the country via satellite. PTA lands shows which lead into to national news programs like The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, and FOX Morning News. Market-leading television stations across America regularly engage PTA for newsmakers. We regularly book with affiliates of NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox. The tour lasts about 3 hours. Interviews typically last 4-6 minutes. Most are live interviews; some are taped. Every hour of the tour, on average, means over a million viewers have seen and heard your message.

SURFIN'
Most people go to Cooperstown, New York to visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame. But book lovers go there to visit one of the best vintage bookshops in the Northeast. Willis Monie Books at 139 Main Street, just a short walk down the block from the Hall of Fame, is chock full of books on almost every subject (including baseball, obviously) at reasonable prices. If you can't get up to the shop to view their whole stock in person, you can visit Willis Monie Books on the web, where a portion of their books, nearly 70,000, are available online.
What was the most famous case of foul play in Hollywood history? The debate could go on forever, but we can tell you of a fascinating case that today is almost completely forgotten and still officially unsolved. In one of the first real-life Hollywood dramas, in 1922, one of tinseltown's top directors, William Desmond Taylor, was murdered. The story involves the top stars of the day and has been touched upon in many books including Sidney Kirkpatrick's highly entertaining, full treatment of the case, A Cast of Killers (Dutton 1986). But there is a webzine called Taylorology that goes over the case in incredible detail, covering the twists and turns while exploring Hollywood's early celebs and their lives. If you like mysteries, this one is a doozy.
Will you win the lottery? Can anyone predict the future? What about speaking to your dead aunt? For eons, people have sought out to answer the unanswerable, including using the Ouija Board. A famous line by a comedian when he was asked if a Ouija Board really works was "It's made by Parker Brothers, the same people who make Monopoly. What do you think?" For those who wish to explore how a Ouija Board works and the history of all things Ouija; check out the Museum of Talking Boards, which has a history of talking boards, pictures and FAQ's that may keep you more entertained than a Ouija Board itself!

TIPS FROM THE TOP
In Praise of E-Mail: 15 Reasons Why Guerrillas Love E-Mail
1. E-mail is efficient. It's quick, easy to use and conserves time.
2. E-mail gets through. You can reach busy, powerful people who won't ordinarily take or return your phone calls via e-mail.
3. E-mail has become the publicists' most powerful tool. Sending short, gentle reminders helps publicists balance the need to continually follow-up and the danger that in doing so they might alienate important media contacts.
4. E-mail gets right to the point. E-mail etiquette encourages brevity and precision.
5. E-mail allows for Quick, Clear Messages.
6. E-mail can contain links to your website or other sites.
7. E-mail lets you transmit bulky files instantly.
8. E-mail delivers even when unread. When recipients don't read their e-mail, they usually check to see what came in and who sent it. The subject line on e-mail inboxes provides a small space in which you can convey the gist of your message. It keeps you on the recipients' radar, even if they don't open your mail.
9. E-mail eludes electronic fences. E-mail gets past secretaries, answering machines, voice mail.
10. E-mail is a versatile marketing tool. It's ideal for sending newsletters, fliers, and other promotional materials without incurring the costs of printing and mailing.
11. E-mail domain names can promote your business. Invest in a domain name that includes the name of your business.
12. E-mail signature files are the equivalent of letterheads on stationary. Make sure to include your contact information in your signature file.
13. E-mail demonstrates that you're firmly in the 21st century.
14. E-mail shifts the cost and burden from senders to recipient.
15. E-mail has revived the lost art of letter writing.
