MORNING DRIVE RADIO TOURS

PTA trademarked the Morning Drive Radio TourTM in 1990 and has since conducted thousands of them for satisfied authors of books of every conceivable subject matter.

The tour consists of a guarantee of at least 18 scheduled interviews, which take place over a single morning, using a phone from anywhere in the country -- even out of the country! Interviews are typically ten minutes in length, providing the opportunity to brand your name, promote your book, and get your message across to several million targeted listeners. We strive for the Top 40-50 markets and often include several nationally or regionally syndicated programs. We need about 4-5 weeks advance notice to schedule a tour date, but if the topic is newsy or timely, we can turn the tour around even quicker.

We'll also coach and prep your author so that he or she can maximize the opportunity afforded by the radio tour. All of the interviews will be targeted to reach the most listeners during morning drive time. All stations will be carefully selected based on size of the market, ratings of the show, the format, and the demographics of listeners. Recent tours included a health book by a best-selling author, a career book from a large publisher, a first-time novelist, a self-published author, and a university press book.

Because PTA literally averages more than one tour every day of the week throughout the year, we have developed a terrific network of contacts with radio hosts and producers in every major market across the country and we look forward to utilizing our experience, knowledge, and connections to promote you in 2006!

SURFIN'

Don't have enough books? Need more? Then we've got a site for you - www.booksalefinder.com. Book Sale Finder lists thousands of book sales, book fairs, book auctions, and other book events held throughout the USA and Canada (All searchable by date or state). If you've never gone to a large library sale (also largely featured on the website), let us tell you, it's a great way to find stellar fiction, as well as, rare and collectible books for a fraction of their original cost - while at the same time supporting your local library.

So, have you heard that Jim Morrison, The Doors lead singer, is alive and well, living as a cowboy in the Pacific Northwest? We all get emails and stories that sound a little over the top and that's why we have the Museum of Hoaxes - www.museumofhoaxes.com. The "Museum" chronicles skullduggery from ancient deceptions all the way up to modern schemes, dupes, and dodges that circulate on the Internet. Marvel at the woman who gave birth to rabbits, be astounded by the Swiss spaghetti trees, and shocked by the Bonsai Kittens. Try to decide if you would have fallen for any of the hoaxes. There are even some tests to help you determine just how gullible you really are. Just remember that there's no claim so stupid that someone, somewhere won't believe it!

If you've never seen Paul Scofield's 1967 Academy Award winning portrayal of Sir Thomas More in the 1966 picture "A Man For All Seasons," you're missing a great performance! The film won six Oscar'sÔ including Best Picture and Best Director. More's intellectual genius and endearing wit, as well as his reputation for virtue, made him a much sought after lawyer and diplomat. A deeply religious man with strong humanist views, today's 21st century political and religious leaders could learn a lot from More's writings. The Thomas More Society has a comprehensive website on More's life & achievements available at www.d-holliday.com/tmore/default.htm.

Tips From the Top

Building the Best Network

Part 5: Starting Close to Home

In building your network, it usually makes sense to work from the inside out. When possible, build initially upon those who are nearest and dearest to you. Then inch your way toward others who aren't as close. First lay a foundation of those who:

  • Are closest to you and who know you best.
  • Have the best connections.
  • Can provide or bring you closer to your objective.

Close contacts, especially family and dear friends, often have a high stake in your success and will go to greater lengths to link you up with contacts who can help. Often, your near and dear ones will be more willing to go out on a limb for you, contact powerful people, or call in chips that they've obtained in return for past favors. In addition, they might recommend other helpful contacts or strategies.

Be expansive -- define your "nearest and dearest" liberally. Don't look only to your parents, siblings, and close friends. Contact your aunts, uncles, grandparents, distant relatives, in-laws, godparents, and your business associates and members of their families. Explore all connections. Ignore the "removed" with relatives who are "once removed." With, friends, call upon their parents, siblings, relatives, friends, and business associates. Leave no stone unturned.

Remember that your nearest and dearest are:

  1. The easiest and most efficient way to expand your resources.
  2. The smartest place to start networking is with those who love you or owe you.

So whenever possible, begin your networking close to home. Develop a plan, have patience, build a solid foundation, and work from there.

After you've established your local network and have moved to greener pastures, try to retain your connections with your local contacts. Jill says, "Consider your local network base, your bedrock supportive structure. Try to find time to return to meetings of local organizations and to attend local events. Those who helped you on the way up will appreciate and spread the word about your unwavering support."

The above is an excerpt from the National Best-Seller NETWORKING MAGIC by Rick Frishman and Jill Lublin.
